Central Alberta Corridor Summary Report

Author

Keren Perla, Matt Mayer, Ailsa Popilian

Canada has the resources to lead in critical materials, but without domestic processing and refining, much of the value continues to flow elsewhere. The Central Alberta Corridor Summary Report explores how this region can help close that gap.

Developed through extensive engagement with industry, government, Indigenous partners, post-secondaries and other regional stakeholders, the report identifies the Central Alberta Corridor as a strategic location to anchor midstream development, linking upstream resource extraction with downstream manufacturing and global markets.

It outlines a regional vision, and highlights four priority solution initiatives to accelerate progress, which taken together present a practical pathway to build a more integrated, competitive, and resilient critical materials sector and position the region for a larger role in wider supply chains while supporting long-term regional prosperity.

We gratefully acknowledge the original territories of the Siksikáwa, Îyârhe Nakodabi, and Tsuut’ina Dene, of Mohkínstsisakápiyoyis, Wincheesh-pah, Kootsisáw, or the colonized lands which many now refer to as Calgary, where the Energy Futures Lab is headquartered. These Lands are also home to members of the Métis Nation of Alberta under the Otipemisiwak Métis Government — District 4 & 5, whose peoples have deep relationships with the land. This reminds all of us to walk in a good way and remember our commitments to Indigenous Peoples.
