Energy Futures Lab

Preeta Raghunathan is a researcher and finance professional passionate about accelerating the transition to a sustainable and equitable energy future. As a Research Assistant at the Energy Futures Lab, she supports work on Alberta’s Electricity Future - exploring policy, investment, and innovation pathways to enable the transition to a grid that is resilient, inclusive, and future-ready.

Preeta brings a strong interdisciplinary background in impact investing, systems thinking, and data-driven research, with prior experience spanning global organizations such as Calvert Impact Capital, Low Income Investment Fund, and the Catalyst Group. Across these roles, she designed and evaluated blended-finance instruments for renewable energy, affordable housing, sustainable agriculture and just transition initiatives, mobilizing capital toward sustainable and community-led solutions. Her work reflects a commitment to bridging finance, research, and community development to reimagine how investments can enable a just and sustainable energy transition in Alberta and beyond.

We gratefully acknowledge the original territories of the Siksikáwa, Îyârhe Nakodabi, and Tsuut’ina Dene, of Mohkínstsisakápiyoyis, Wincheesh-pah, Kootsisáw, or the colonized lands which many now refer to as Calgary, where the Energy Futures Lab is headquartered. These Lands are also home to members of the Métis Nation of Alberta under the Otipemisiwak Métis Government — District 4 & 5, whose peoples have deep relationships with the land. This reminds all of us to walk in a good way and remember our commitments to Indigenous Peoples.
