Western Canada has what it takes to build a world-class battery supply chain: abundant resources, strong industrial capacity, and growing leadership in clean technology. But realizing this potential requires more than isolated investments — it requires a coordinated regional strategy grounded in global competitiveness, clean innovation, and economic reconciliation.

Along with our partners the Battery Metals Association of Canada and The Transition Accelerator, we convened multi-stakeholder workshops across to identify key industrial clusters and shape the concepts featured in Towards a Western Canadian Battery Value Chain.

The report highlights how targeted investments in clean energy, transportation, and processing infrastructure can unlock the full value of Western Canada’s resource base.

These Lands are also home to members of the Métis Nation of Alberta under the Otipemisiwak Métis Government — District 4 & 5, whose peoples have deep relationships with the land. This reminds all of us to walk in a good way and remember our commitments to Indigenous Peoples.
